Callus Pad

A callus pad or horseshoe pad is used to reduce pressure on different areas of the foot.  The adhesive back allows them to be placed on almost any surface.  Ideally the pad is place on the bottom surface of an insole or on an orthotic, most pressure areas are leave an indentation in the insole making the location easy to find

When using callus pads for calluses on the bottom surface of the foot. Identify the area of pressure on the insole(an indentation should be present) and place the felt horseshoe pad on the bottom surface of the insole.  The high pressure areas often have a crater or dimple the center of the open area in the felt horseshoe pad should be directly below the center of the dimple with the apex of the horseshoe facing toward the heel. It is less likely to disturb the pad when putting shoes on or taking them off when the pad is placed on the bottom surface of the insole.

Callus pads are 1/8 inch in thickness and compress with time and weight bearing, additional callus pads can be placed over the old one(s) as needed. This method allows an individual to achieve the appropriate level of offloading in small intervals to maximize comfort. Insoles that have been glued in, will need to be lifted gently to use this technique.
